Forty years ago, Mrs. T. A. (Jean) Robinson and her husband, Tom, founded a Christian home for troubled teen-age boys, and Jean chose the name “Boys Country.” With three mobile buildings, a $25.00 personal donation and their gift of ten acres of land, the Robinsons began what is now Boys and Girls Country.
Jean recalls that they knew nothing about raising boys – especially the ones that were brought to them – but Tom knew how to build and develop. And he did.
He hired Jack Brewer, a Youth Director at Tallowood Baptist Church, whose guidance and expertise proved invaluable over the years. And then, Tom built the first permanent building on campus – known then as the “T-Building” and now as the Community Life Building.
With the vision of Tom and Jean, Boys and Girls Country now is a Christian Home for 88 children, and supports another 85 recent high school graduates who are in college or starting their careers.
In a recent interview, Jean said, “God was with us from the beginning, and he continues to be with this Home.”
